My Friends

A small detail in a world-famous painting becomes the starting point for a search into its origins. Twenty-five years earlier, a group of teenagers found comfort in one another during a defining summer, and their friendship went on to inspire a remarkable work of art.

Now the painting has come into the hands of Louisa, an eighteen-year-old aspiring artist, who sets out for the seaside town where it began. As she closes in on the truth behind its creation, she discovers that happy endings can arrive in unexpected forms. Suitable for adult readers.

The Winners

Two years after events no one wants to revisit, a community tries to carry on while the past refuses to loosen its grip. Moving forward proves difficult in a place shaped by what happened, and by what people choose not to say.

As residents wrestle with questions of family, community and what they might sacrifice to protect them, the story turns on the pressures that bind people together and pull them apart. Suitable for adult readers.

Anxious People

On New Year’s Eve, an open viewing hosted by House Tricks estate agents takes an unexpected turn when a bank robber bursts in and politely takes everyone hostage. Inside the apartment are strangers with private worries, each arriving for their own reasons.

Anna-Lena and Roger are focused on property and the strain in their marriage, Julia and Ro are anxious parents-to-be, and bank manager Zara has come for the view. Suitable for adult readers.

Us Against You

A broken town faces the question of whether it can survive a second tragedy. Set against the rivalry of two towns and two teams, the story examines what it means to commit to something larger than yourself.

People come together in anger, sorrow and love, and the consequences are stark by the time the final goal is scored. Suitable for adult readers.

Beartown

Deep in a Swedish forest, Beartown is isolated and carrying a dark secret, with the wilderness steadily encroaching on the town each year. When the promise of a brighter future appears, everything is thrown into doubt by a single brutal act.

The fallout splits the community between those who want the matter buried and those prepared to risk that future in pursuit of justice. Suitable for adult readers.
