Tamiya US PBR 31 Mk.II Pibber (1:35 Scale)

Developed for hazardous patrols on Vietnam’s coastal and river waterways, the U.S. Navy’s Patrol Boat, River (PBR) became a widely used craft in Southeast Asia. This Tamiya US PBR 31 Mk.II “Pibber” model kit recreates the military PBR in 1:35 scale as a detailed build intended for adult constructors.

The real vessel was based on a fibreglass-hulled pleasure craft built by Modutec Marine in Seattle, Washington, and carried a crew of four. Armament included a pair of .50 calibre guns or a grenade launcher on a tripod in the fantail, plus a single M-60 on a pipe mount bolted to an amidships splinter shield. Power came from two turbocharged Detroit Diesel 205 HP V-6 marine engines driving Jaccuzzi 14JY water jetdrives, with steering via movable nozzles mounted on the rear transom. Surface radar and two-way radio equipment supported communication and manoeuvring safety.
