The Cancer Whisperer is written by Sophie Sabbage. It is presented as a personal account of her experience with lung cancer and the approach she describes as “cancer whispering”.
Sophie Sabbage describes being diagnosed with late-stage “incurable” lung cancer in October 2014, at the age of 48, while married and raising a four-year-old daughter. She writes about the period that followed, when she was told her prognosis was poor, and the journey of healing and transformation that she says reshaped her vocation and changed her life.
The book chronicles her developing relationship with cancer and the methods she used to work with difficult emotions including fear, anger, denial and grief. She explains the idea of taking cancer “off the battlefield and into the classroom”, choosing to listen, learn and decide her own response. Alongside this perspective, she shares the research she has undertaken, the treatments she has chosen, the diet she follows and resources she believes made the biggest difference.
