Synopses

The Secret River

London, 1806. William Thornhill is married to his childhood sweetheart, Sal, and works as a waterman on the River Thames. When he makes a serious mistake, he and his family pay a heavy price, and he is sentenced to transportation to New South Wales for the term of his natural life. Soon, Thornhill faces the most difficult decision he has ever had to make.

The Lieutenant

In 1788, Daniel Rooke sets out on a journey that changes the course of his life. A lieutenant in the First Fleet, he arrives on the unknown shores of New South Wales and establishes an observatory to chart the stars. The country proves more revelatory than the skies, and the story follows Rooke’s connection to an Aboriginal child and a friendship that resonates across oceans and centuries.

Sarah Thornhill

Sarah and Jack are certain they are meant for each other, but someone in Sarah’s family refuses to accept their relationship. The reason is rooted in both past and present, and it takes Sarah across an ocean to a place she never expected to go.
