Paper Aeroplanes Series by Dawn O’Porter is a two-novel collection set on Guernsey in the mid-1990s. It follows fifteen-year-old schoolgirls Renée and Flo, whose friendship takes shape despite their differences. Flo is portrayed as thoughtful, introspective and studious, while Renée is ambitious, extroverted and sexually curious.

Linked by loneliness and dysfunctional family lives, the pair form an intense bond at an age when possibilities feel limitless and betrayals can seem definitive. The story then moves forward by a year and a half, with Renée living with her Auntie Jo and spending time watching the geese. As the girls enter their final year at school, questions about university and what comes next begin to press in, including whether they will take the same path together.
