The Wild Hunt Books is a four-novel collection set primarily in the Welsh Marches around the turn of the twelfth century. Against a backdrop of threatened lands, shifting dynasties and political manoeuvring, the stories follow noble households where alliances are shaped by conflict, contested inheritances and marriages arranged for survival.

The wider setting draws on the precarious throne of William Rufus and the rule of King Henry I. Across the set, characters face danger on the road, divided loyalties and the consequences of war, with the narrative moving from the Marches to an English manor in the aftermath of a brutal attack and as far as Antioch, before returning to family obligations and uneasy bargains.

Synopses

The Wild Hunt

In the Welsh Marches, Guyon, lord of Ledworth, rides home angry and in danger as heir to lands under threat. He is promised in marriage to Judith of Ravenstow, a match intended to protect his territory, though they have not yet met. Dynasties forge and fight as political intrigue unfolds behind the precarious throne of William Rufus.

The Running Vixen

In 1126, Heulwen, daughter of Welsh Marcher baron Guyon FitzMiles, has been raised alongside her father’s ward, Adam de Lacey. Despite a long-standing spark between them, Heulwen marries Ralf le Chevalier. Adam, devastated, leaves on diplomatic missions for King Henry I.

The Coming of the Wolf

After an attack on Ashdyke Manor, Lady Christen witnesses her husband’s murder and the pillaging of her lands by Norman invaders. Miles Le Gallois, Lord of Milnham-on-Wye, calls off the assault, but then holds Christen’s brother under armed guard. He offers a bargain: her brother’s freedom in exchange for Christen’s hand in marriage.

The Leopard Unleashed

Renard, heir to Ravenstow, is a crusader in Antioch, far from the Welsh Marches of his birth. Summoned home to his ailing father, he returns with Olwen, an exotic dancing girl whose beauty and wild ways have captivated him.
