In the Lives of Puppets

Victor lives in a small home built into the branches of a tree, sharing it with three robots: a nurse machine with a cruel streak, a vacuum desperate for affection, and Giovanni Lawson, an inventor-android who holds the family together. Their life is hidden and safe, until Victor salvages an unfamiliar android labelled HAP.

As Victor learns more, he discovers a dark history linking HAP and Gio, and a past in which they hunted humans. When HAP inadvertently reveals Gio’s location, figures from Gio’s former life arrive, intent on capturing him and returning him to an old laboratory in the City of Electric Dreams.

Under the Whispering Door

Charon’s Crossing offers hot tea, fresh scones, and a place where the dead pass through. Wallace’s world shifts when a reaper arrives at his sparsely attended funeral to collect him, and he is forced to confront the possibility that he is, in fact, dead.

Hugo, the owner of an unusual tea shop, promises to help Wallace cross over, and Wallace reluctantly accepts the truth. Even so, he clings to the life he lived, shaped by work and a habit of correcting and hectoring others, until time spent with Hugo and his customers makes him question what he may have missed.

House in the Cerulean Sea

Linus Baker lives quietly, with a tiny house, a devious cat, and his record collection. At the Department in Charge of Magical Youth, he has spent years monitoring orphanages in a routine that rarely changes.

Everything alters when Extremely Upper Management summons him for a highly classified assignment. Linus is sent to an orphanage housing six dangerous children, including the Antichrist.
