Vieux Chateau des Combes Grand Cru Saint-émilion 2021

From Vieux Chateau des Combes, this Saint-Émilion Grand Cru 2021 is an east-bank claret with a full-bodied, complex profile, blended from 60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc. Produced in Saint-Christophe-des-Bardes, just five kilometres from the historic village of Saint-Emilion, the estate takes its name from the “combes” of little hills and valleys where vines were planted around a Benedictine abbey built in the 17th century.

Today, the chateau sits among vineyards, copses, trees and a half-hectare pond, a setting described as calm and contemplative. In the glass, the nose is complex and powerful, with fruity and spicy notes, including red fruits and Morello cherry aromas. The palate is well balanced and sophisticated, offering silky fruit flavours of cassis and damson. Oak is present without overshadowing the fruit, bringing spice, cedar and a touch of vanilla through to a long, persistent finish.

Serve alongside red and white meat, roasted vegetables or soft cheese.
