Step into the world of the hive with Hiver's Beekeeping Taster with Honey Tasting for Two, a hands-on beekeeping experience that offers a closer look at how bees live and work. Guided by a beekeeper, this session introduces the life cycle of a bee, types of honey bees and honey production before moving on to practical time at the hive.

During the experience, you will handle frames taken straight from the hive and learn how to assess what is happening inside, from spotting the queen bee and freshly hatched larvae to checking honey stores and the condition of the hive. Questions are welcomed throughout, and the session finishes with a tasting of fresh, raw honey. Available on Saturdays, it makes a distinctive choice for anyone interested in bees, food provenance or rural craft.

What happens on the day

When you arrive, you will be greeted by the beekeeper who will lead the experience. The session begins with an introduction to the world of bees, including the life cycle of a bee, types of honey bees, honey production and more. You will then get hands-on experience handling the frames straight from the hive, before sampling fresh honey.

Participant guidelines

• Age 14+
• There is not wheelchair access to the hives
• Some standing is required whilst visiting the hives

• This experience is available on Saturdays in April to September, until spaces run out
• We recommend you book at least 4 weeks in advance to ensure that dates are available. All bookings are subject to availability.
• Please allow up to 1 hour for the full experience.
