The Pian delle Vigne estate lies 6 kilometres (3.5 miles) south-west of Montalcino, taking its name from the local area where a nineteenth-century railway station stands. The property extends to 460 total acres (184 hectares), with 160 acres (65 hectares) planted to vines. With a generally south-western exposure and vineyards at an altitude of 430 feet (130 metres) above sea level, the estate provides the setting for Antinori’s deeply personal interpretation of Brunello di Montalcino. The Antinori family acquired Pian delle Vigne in 1995, the same year the first Brunello Pian delle Vigne was harvested.
