From Castello Banfi, Poggio alle Mura Brunello di Montalcino 2019 is a single-vineyard Brunello with a deep, intense red colour and a complex profile that remains immediately captivating. Fresh, sweet notes of plums, cherries, blackberry jam and raspberries lead the palate, with hints of chocolate, cigar box, vanilla and liquorice adding depth and definition.

Poggio alle Mura takes its name from the 12th-century fortress that crowns the Banfi vineyard estate, now known as Castello Banfi. The vineyard’s stony, sandy topsoil and calcareous character underpin a wine that is well-structured, with extraordinary concentration of fruit, supple tannins and a long finish.

Produced as a cru, this Brunello is vinified from 3 optimal Sangiovese Brunello clones selected through Castello Banfi’s clonal research. It is aged for 2 years in mostly French oak barriques and some Slavonian oak casks, then aged in bottle for 2 years for additional refinement. As Castello Banfi’s first unfiltered wine, it captures a full body and rounded complexity.
