Planteray Isle of Fiji is a double-aged rum made at Rum Co. of Fiji from local sugarcane molasses. It spends around two to three years ageing in bourbon casks in Fiji before a further year in Ferrand casks in south-west France. That process gives you a rum with clear Fijian character, while the second maturation brings extra shape and polish to the final bottle.
Flavour profile
This is a rounded, fruit-forward style. The nose opens on molasses and pear, then moves into apple, banana, gooseberry, nutmeg and vanilla, with a faint smoky note at the end. On the palate, vanilla fudge, honey, ginger, prune and coconut add richness without making it feel heavy.
Good to know
Bottled at 40% ABV, it works well for a neat pour and has enough character to hold its shape in classic rum serves. You can expect a balanced profile built around tropical fruit, soft spice and a touch of smoke rather than overt sweetness.
