Who Let the Gods Out Series is a four-book collection by Maz Evans, bringing together Elliot’s adventures alongside Virgo, a young Zodiac goddess. Across the set, Elliot is dealing with his mum’s illness and mounting pressures at home and school, while a growing cast of Greek immortals and dangerous daemons complicate everything further.
The story begins when a shooting star crashes to earth, setting off events that lead to the release of Thanatos, a death daemon imprisoned beneath Stonehenge. With old Olympian gods drawn back into action and new threats emerging, Elliot and Virgo are pushed into quests that test their courage, loyalty and choices, as the stakes rise towards a final confrontation.
Elliot’s mum is ill and his home is under threat when a shooting star changes his life. The star is Virgo, a young Zodiac goddess on a mission, but together they accidentally release Thanatos, a death daemon imprisoned beneath Stonehenge. They turn to the Olympian gods for help, including Zeus and his crew.
Elliot Hooper’s problems continue as his mum’s health worsens and he struggles at school. Greek immortals move into his home, including Virgo, who is in trouble with the Zodiac. With Thanatos and his mother at large, more allies and enemies appear and Elliot and Virgo must learn how to be heroes.
Elliot’s life is spiralling: he is suspended from school, his dad is useless around the house and his mum’s health is worsening. The gods continue their quest for the third chaos stone, and an odyssey begins. Elliot hears of a mythical potion rumoured to cure all ills and faces a choice that could affect both his mum and the fate of the world.
In the series finale, Elliot faces his darkest period yet as he confronts his fears. The future of mankind and the survival of what he holds dear are at stake. Elliot, a group of misfit gods and a lost constellation must stand up to daemon hordes.
